Community Guidelines

How We Treat Each Other on ParleNaija

ParleNaija is a community built on respect, curiosity, and shared growth. These guidelines exist to keep it that way for everyone.

🎯Our Purpose

ParleNaija exists to help Nigerians learn French together. Every feature — the community feed, lessons, leaderboard, direct messages — is built to support that goal. When you use ParleNaija, you are joining a community of learners who share your journey. Treat it that way.

What We Encourage

  • Sharing your French learning progress, wins, and struggles
  • Asking questions in Pidgin, English, or French — no judgment
  • Helping other learners with corrections, tips, and encouragement
  • Celebrating birthdays and milestones with your community
  • Posting content that is relevant, constructive, and respectful
  • Reporting content that violates these guidelines

🚫What Is Not Accepted

  • Harassment, bullying, or personal attacks on any member
  • Hate speech based on ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, or any other identity
  • Spam — repeated posts, promotional content, or irrelevant links
  • Misinformation — deliberately false or misleading content
  • Sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise inappropriate content
  • Impersonating another person or creating fake accounts
  • Sharing private information about others without their consent
  • Any content that violates Nigerian law or international standards

🛡️Reporting & Moderation

If you see content that violates these guidelines, use the 🚩 Report button on any post or comment. Select the reason that best describes the issue and submit. Our moderation team reviews every report. Valid reports — where action is taken — earn you 10 community points. This is our way of recognising members who help keep ParleNaija safe. Depending on the severity of a violation, we may warn the user, remove the content, or both. Repeated violations may result in account suspension.

💬Direct Messages

Direct messaging is available between friends only. The same standards apply — harassment, unsolicited explicit content, or any abusive behaviour in DMs is a violation of these guidelines and may result in account action.

🏆Points & Leaderboard

Points are earned through positive contributions — completing lessons, posting, commenting, liking, celebrating birthdays, referring friends, and making valid reports. Attempting to game the system through spam or fake engagement is a violation and may result in points being removed.

🔄Updates to These Guidelines

These guidelines may be updated as the community grows. We will notify users of significant changes via the app. Continued use of ParleNaija after changes are posted means you accept the updated guidelines.
